Club History

Abbey Grange O.B was founded in 1989 by members of
Cookridge Cricket Club who wished to continue meeting using a sporting
means throughout the winter. All of the founding committee and a large
number of players had attended Abbey Grange C of E High School so, after
gaining permission from the Head Teacher, the name of Abbey Grange was
used to meet the entry criteria then in place for the Yorkshire Old Boys
League.
The team
originally played at Leeds City Council playing fields on Otley Old Road,
Leeds, but moved to The Leeds Metropolitan University playing fields at
Bedquilts, Adel after 2 years. The team still uses this facility but the
First and Reserve XI are now based at The HQ Club in Chapeltown, formerly
the Leeds CSSC.
New players
have constantly arrived at the club throughout our brief history. This has
meant the creation of additional teams to accommodate these
players. 91/92 saw the Reserve team join the league with a 3rd
XI being started in 2000/01. Season 2003-04
is likely to see the inception of a 4th XI.
In five of
the first seven seasons, the 1st eleven gained promotion;
rising from Division 4 to the top division, Senior A. 97/98 saw the team
suffer its only relegation, dropping back to Senior B, before regaining
its place in the top flight in the 2000-01 season.
The Reserve
XI won Division 4 in its second season and gained further promotion to
Division 2. Having spent four seasons in this division they are
pushing for promotion this season. The
Third XI were entered into the league in Division 3 and struggled for the
first season but have now established themselves in the mid reaches of
this league.
New
players are always made welcome.
